Description
Toluene is an organic compound with the chemical formula C7H8. It is a colorless, volatile liquid with a special aroma and belongs to aromatic hydrocarbons. It has strong refraction. It can be miscible with ethanol, ether, acetone, chloroform, carbon disulfide and glacial acetic acid, and is insoluble in water. Flammable, vapor can form an explosive mixture with air, and the mixture can explode when the volume concentration is in a low range. Low toxicity, median lethal dose (rats, orally)5000mg/kg. High concentrations of gas are anesthetic and irritating.
Application
Toluene is an important chemical raw material, which can be used in the manufacture of spray paint, explosives, pesticides, benzoic acid, dyes, synthetic resins and polyester. Toluene is also used as a solvent and is one of the components of gasoline.
