Description
Diethyl Carbonate (CAS 105-58-8) is a colorless liquid with a fruity odor. It has a basic structure consisting of two ethyl groups attached to a carbonate group. This chemical is highly soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether, but only slightly soluble in water. Diethyl carbonate has a boiling point of 126-127°C and a melting point of -43°C. It is flammable and can form explosive mixtures with air. In addition, it is stable under normal conditions and does not react with water or acids.
Application
Pharmaceutical Industry: In the pharmaceutical industry, Diethyl Carbonate is used as a solvent and reagent in the synthesis of various pharmaceutical compounds. It can be used as a substitute for toxic solvents, making it a safer option for certain reactions.
Electronics Industry: Diethyl carbonate is also used in the electronics industry as a solvent for lithium-ion battery electrolytes. It helps improve the performance and stability of the batteries by enhancing the ionic conductivity and preventing the formation of solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layers.
