Description
Sorbitol, also known as Glucitol, is a sugar alcohol derived from glucose. It is a polyol with a sweet taste, which the human body metabolizes slowly. Sorbitol occurs naturally in various fruits and vegetables, such as apples, pears, peaches, and prunes . It is commonly used as a sugar substitute in food products due to its lower caloric content compared to sucrose.
Application
1. Daily chemical industry
Sorbitol is used as excipient, moisturizer, antifreeze in toothpaste, adding up to 25 ~ 30%, which can keep the paste lubricated, color and taste good; As an anti-drying agent in cosmetics (instead of glycerin), it can enhance the extensibility and lubricity of emulsifier and is suitable for long-term storage; Sorbitan fatty acid ester and its ethylene oxide adduct have the advantage of little irritation to skin and are widely used in cosmetics industry.
2. Food industry
Adding Sorbitol to food can prevent dry cracking of food and keep food fresh and soft. Used in bread cakes, there is an obvious effect.
The sweetness of sorbitol is lower than sucrose, and it is not used by some bacteria, and it is an important raw material for the production of sugar-free candies and various anti-caries foods. Because the metabolism of this product does not cause blood sugar rise, it can also be used as a sweetener and nutrient for diabetic food.
Sorbitol does not contain aldehyde group, is not easy to be oxidized, and does not produce Maillard reaction of amino acids when heated. It has certain physiological activity, can prevent the degeneration of carotenoid and edible fat and protein, adding this product in concentrated milk can extend the shelf life, but also improve the color and flavor of small intestine, and has obvious stability and long-term preservation of fish meat sauce. It works the same way in preserves.
3. Pharmaceutical industry
Sorbitol can be used as raw material for vitamin C production. It can also be used as a raw material for syrup, infusion, medicine tablet, as a drug dispersant, filler, cryoprotectant, anti-crystallization agent, traditional Chinese medicine stabilizer, wetting agent, capsule plasticizer, sweetener, ointment base, etc.
4. Chemical industry
Sorbitol resin is often used as a raw material for architectural coatings, and can be used as a plasticizer and lubricant in polyvinyl chloride resins and other polymers.
In alkaline solution with iron, copper, aluminum ions complexed, used in textile industry bleaching and washing.
With sorbitol and propylene oxide as starting materials, polyurethane rigid foam can be produced and has certain flame-retardant properties.
