Description

Acetone, also known as propan-2-one or dimethyl ketone, is a colorless, volatile, and flammable liquid with a characteristic pungent odor. It is the simplest and smallest ketone, with the chemical formula (CH₃)₂CO. This compound is widely used as a solvent in various industrial and domestic applications due to its ability to dissolve many organic compounds.

Application

Acetone is an important organic synthesis raw material, used in the production of epoxy resin, polycarbonate, plexiglass, medicine, pesticides and so on. It is also a good solvent, used for coating, binder, cylinder acetylene, etc. Also used as diluent, cleaning agent, extraction agent. It is also an important raw material for manufacturing acetic anhydride, diacetone alcohol, chloroform, iodoform, epoxy resin, polyisoprene rubber, methyl methacrylate and so on. In smokeless powder, celluloid, acetate fiber, spray paint and other industries used as a solvent. It is used as extractant in grease and other industries.
