Description

Sodium formateis a colorless crystal. Slight odor of formic acid. Deliquescent. Soluble in  water, glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol. Its aqueous solution is neutral, pH about 7. It is mainly used in the production of formic acid, oxalic acid and insurance powder, etc. It is also used in medicine and printing and dyeing industry. It is also a precipitant of heavy metals. It is used in alkyd resin coating, plasticizer, potent explosive, acid resistant material, aviation lubricant, adhesive additive, precipitating precious metal, and forming complex ion of trivalent metal in solution.

One of the key properties of Sodium Formate is its ability to act as a buffering agent, which helps regulate pH levels in different products. This makes it a valuable ingredient in the production of textiles, paper products, and leather goods.

Sodium formate is also commonly used as a de-icing agent for runways and roads. It is highly effective in melting snow and ice, making it an important tool for airport and municipal authorities around the world.

Application

Leather tanning: Sodium formate is used as a reducing agent in the production of leather products. It helps to remove impurities and improve the quality of the leather.

Deicing agent:Sodium formate is used as a deicing agent on roads and runways. It helps to melt ice and snow, making the surfaces safer for vehicles and pedestrians.

Oil drilling:Sodium formate is used as a drilling fluid in oil and gas exploration. It helps to lubricate and cool the drilling bit, making the drilling process more efficient.

Food preservation: Sodium formate is used as a preservative in the food industry. It inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi, helping to extend the shelf life of food products.

Dyeing and printing:Sodium formate is used as a mordant in dyeing and printing textiles. It helps to fix the dye and improve the color fastness of the fabric.

Chemical synthesis: Sodium formate is used as a starting material in the synthesis of various chemicals, including formic acid, methanol, and formamide.

Pharmaceutical industry:Sodium formate is used as a buffering agent in the production of pharmaceuticals. It helps to maintain the pH of the solution, ensuring the stability of the active ingredients.
