Application

Oxidation:This compound can be oxidized to hexadecanoic acid (palmitic acid) using oxidizing agents like potassium permanganate (KMnO4) or chromium trioxide (CrO3).

Esterification:It reacts with carboxylic acids to form esters in the presence of acid catalysts like sulfuric acid (H2SO4).

Etherification:This compound can react with alkyl halides to form ethers in the presence of a base like sodium hydride (NaH).
